Zdjęcie to nigdy nie trafiło do żadnego projektu, ale jest dla mnie bardzo ważne. Zrobiłam je na ostatnim roku studiów. Był to czas, w którym bardzo starałam się robić fotografie, które naprawdę mają znaczenie – chciałam czuć, że są ważne. Narzuciłam sama sobie rygor i starałam się codziennie tworzyć. Właśnie wtedy powstało to zdjęcie. To był dla mnie punkt zwrotny. Ruszyłam z projektem Pretty, Please i zaczęłam poszukiwać własnego artystycznego wyrazu. Zrozumiałam również jak ważny dla finalnego efektu jest sam proces twórczy.
Allison Morris – eksperymentująca, rozwijająca się fotografka. Żyje i pracuje w Greater Toronto Area. Wystawiała swoje prace w Toronto (Ontario) i we Florencji (Włochy). Niedawno obroniła licencjat z fotografii na Ontario College of Art and Design University i spędziła ostatni rok za granicą, biorąc udział w programie OCAD University’s Off-Campus Florence, we Włoszech.
Allison interesują przedstawienia kobiet, kobiecość jako konstrukt, piękno, młodość, tożsamość i performance z perspektywy kobiecej. Posługuje się autoportretem, który służy jej za narzędzie kontroli własnych obrazów. Kwestionuje męski punt widzenia poprzez ciągłe, świadome występowanie przed obiektywem i samą sobą.

This image never became part of a body of work but sticks out as an important image to me. I was in the the middle of my thesis year in art school, and at the time was really struggling to make work that mattered to me or that I felt was important. I began to challenge myself by creating and shooting every day, and eventually this image came out of that work. I think of it as a turning point in my art career so far, as it kicked off my Pretty, Please series and I began to find my voice as an artist, and realized how important the artistic process is to a final project.
Allison Morris – emerging fine art photographer living and working in the Greater Toronto Area. She has exhibited in Toronto, Ontario and Florence, Italy. Allison has recently completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography at the Ontario College of Art and Design University, and spent her third year of study abroad as part of OCAD University’s Off-Campus Florence program in Italy.
Allison’s artistic practice explores themes of female representation, the construction of femininity, beauty, youth, identity, and performance from a feminist perspective. She uses self-portraiture as a tool with which she can control her images and challenge the male gaze by consciously performing for the camera and herself.
