Antonina Gugała
To zdjęcie powstało w okolicach 2015 roku w Warszawie. Wówczas zastanawiałam się nad stworzeniem cyklu prac, który dotyczyłby związku fotografii i rzeźby. Zajmowała mnie kwestia tego, jak za pomocą obrazu można pokazać trójwymiarowość. Sporo czytałam na temat relacji fotografii i rzeźby i próbowałam jakoś zilustrować ten problem za pomocą zdjęć. Zastanawiałam się też nad tym, czy możliwe jest odwrócenie tradycyjnej relacji, w której fotografia służy przede wszystkim dokumentacji obiektu. Z czasem porzuciłam ten pomysł. Doszłam do wniosku, że pomimo zainteresowania formą moich prac, nie chciałabym skupiać się wyłącznie na niej. Pod tym względem to zdjęcie stanowiło swoisty przełom. Dlatego mimo, że nie doprowadziłam tego pomysłu do realizacji, wciąż lubię na nie patrzeć. Poza tym jest chyba najbardziej wypukłym zdjęciem, jakie udało mi się zrobić.
Antonina Gugała (ur. 1989, Warszawa) – absolwentka Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego na kierunkach Psychologia oraz Iberystka. Studentka Instytutu Twórczej Fotografii w Opawie (Czechy). Jej prace były wystawiane m.in. w Fundacji Archeologia Fotografii, w Galerii XS w Warszawie oraz Oficyna w Poznaniu, a także w Muzeum Współczesnym we Wrocławiu. Otrzymała stypendium Spółdzielni Młodych Twórców (Towarzystwo Inicjatyw Twórczych “ę”, 2013) oraz stypendium artystyczne miasta st. Warszawa (2016). Jej fotografie były publikowane w Der Greif, Rum Magazine i Urbanautica. Brała udział w rezydencjach artystycznych w Meliggoi (Grecja, 2017) oraz w Kuldidze/ISSP (Łotwa, 2017).
I made this photograph around 2015 in Warsaw. At that time I was contemplating the idea of making a body of work on the relationship between photography and sculpture. I wanted to find out if it is possible to depict three-dimensionality. I read a lot about photography and sculpture and I was trying to come up with images that could illustrate this idea. I also wanted to explore the possibility of changing the traditional relationship existing between these elements, in which a photograph is used merely as a means of documenting an object. After a while I abandoned this idea. I understood that, as interested as I am in the formal side of my pictures, I do not wish to concentrate solely on this aspect of my work. In a way, this was a breakthrough moment for me. This is why, even though I did not complete the series, I still like to look at this picture. I also think that it might be the most bulging photograph that I ever made.
Antonina Gugala (b. 1989, Warsaw) – University of Warsaw graduate (Psychology, MA and Iberian Studies, BA). Student at the Institute of Creative Photography in Opava (Czech Rep.). Her work has been exhibited at the Foundation of Archeology of Photography, at the XS Gallery in Warsaw and Oficyna Gallery in Poznan, as well as at the Contemporary Museum in Wroclaw. She was awarded the Young Creators’ Cooperative scholarship (Association of Creative Initiatives “ę”, 2013) and the City of Warsaw Art Scholarship (2016). Her works have been published in Der Greif, Rum Magazine and Urbanautica. She participated in art residencies at Meliggoi (Greece, 2017) and at Kuldiga/ISSP (Latvia, 2017).
