Fotografia pochodzi z cyklu Life We Live. Projekt porusza temat życia afroamerykańskich mężczyzn w wieku od 17 do 21 lat. Fotografia nosi tytuł Red Skins. Została zrobiona w klubie w Karolinie Północnej. Podobnie jak malarz Archibald Motley, który uchwyca energię jazzu i miejskiej czarnej kultury podczas renesansu Harlemu, chciałam ukazać energię nocnego życia młodych Afroamerykanów.

The photograph is from my Life We Live series. The series explores the life of African-American men between the ages of 17 to 21. The photograph “Red Skins” was taken at a club in North Carolina. Similar to the paintings by Archibald Motley, which depict the energy of jazz and urban black culture during the Harlem Renaissance, I was interested in depicting the energy of night life in young African American men.
