Zdjęcie zostało zrobione w 2010 roku w Maszkowicach (Polska). Pracowałem nad własnym projektem o historycznych, narodowych i etnicznych mniejszościach zamieszkujących w Polsce. Wiele razy spotykałem się z tymi społecznościami. Kiedy robiłem zdjęcie pracowałem nad przedstawieniem Romów, mieszkającą w Maszkowicach. To pierwsza fotografia, którą tam zrobiłem.

This photo was taken in Maszkowice, Poland in 2010. I was working on my personal project about historical national and ethnical minorities of Poland. For that reason I was visiting and meeting all around Poland communities representing all these minorities. And this time I was going to the Roma community living in Maszkowice. It was one of the first photo I made there. Despite the fact that the community seemed very closed to the outside, I was well received and very soon became the official photographer of the community, being invited to photograph during communion, weddings and funerals as well as portraying them all. It was the beginning of two intensive years visiting them there.

Finally this photo did not make the cut, as well as every ones made there for two reasons. First of all I decided to change my photographic approach of the project and secondly I thought that all photos made in Maszkowice will more damage than help the Roma community there, with a danger of reinforcing stereotypes.

Nevertheless I appreciate this picture as it makes me remembering the interesting time I spent there and also how hard it can be to just leave your work if you think it will not deserve what you want to tell.
