I took this photograph in Kaunas, Lithuania. I was there thanks to my friend who took part in the exhibition at the KAUNAS PHOTO festival. We stayed in a hotel called Metropolis. Wooden paneling, colorful stained glass windows, a huge crystal chandelier in the hall, all this gave an illusion of exclusivity. On the second day we went for breakfast and passed the reception. In the hall I did not notice this situation yet, only when I entered the restaurant room I turned around and made only one quick photo. I did not even check the settings in the camera. Fortunately, I had a camera with me. I do not really remember why I took it.

Paweł Jaśkiewicz (b. 1991) is a photographer who resides in Poznan, Poland. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arts in Poznan. While studying there, he also completed the exchange program at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.

He has also photographed under the guidance of Magnum photographers Antoine D’agata and Jacob Aue Sobol at the Magnum Workshop Tokyo, which led to having his work exhibited with Magnum. Since then, Paweł’s photographic works have been exhibited in both Germany and his homeland, Poland.

Powyższe zdjęcie zrobiłem w Kownie, na Litwie. Znalazłem się tam dzięki mojemu znajomemu, który brał udział w wystawie na festiwalu KAUNAS PHOTO. Zatrzymaliśmy się w hotelu o nazwie Metropolis. Drewniana boazeria, kolorowe witraże w oknach, ogromny kryształowy żyrandol w hallu, to wszystko dawało złudne poczucie ekskluzywności. Drugiego dnia szliśmy na śniadanie i mijaliśmy recepcję. W hallu nie zauważyłem jeszcze tej sytuacji, dopiero wchodząc do sali restauracyjnej odwróciłem się i zrobiłem tylko jedno szybkie zdjęcie, nawet nie sprawdzając ustawień w aparacie. Całe szczęście, że go przy sobie miałem. Właściwie nie pamiętam dlaczego zabrałem go ze sobą.

Paweł Jaśkiewicz (ur. 1991) –  fotograf mieszkający w Poznaniu. Zrobił licencjat na Uniwersytecie Artystycznym w Poznaniu. Studiując tam, ukończył także program wymiany w Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts w Londynie.

Fotografował także pod okiem fotografów z agencji Magnum: Antoine D’agata i Jacoba Aue Sobola w Magnum Workshop Tokyo, co zaowocowało jego wystawą pod ich patronatem. Od tego czasu prace fotograficzne Pawła wystawiane były zarówno w Niemczech, jak i w jego ojczyźnie, Polsce.
