This image is an outtake from my series Where the Land Rises. Photographed over several months in early 2015, my series Where the Land Rises explores the complex interrelations between the environment and mankind against the unpredictable volcanic terrain of Heimaey in southern Iceland. By investigating the 1973 eruption of Eldfell on the island of Heimaey, I examine how this sudden trauma to the symbolic order of existence transformed both the island’s geography and the collective psyche of the people who live there.
Peter Holliday – (b. 1992) is a Scottish photographer and visual artist based in Glasgow. Peter’s work considers the symbiotic relationship humans share with the environments we find ourselves in. Reflecting on ideas of time, memory, and home, Peter is interested in investigating the cultural significance of the topographies that underpin humanity’s existence.
